Walt Disney World and Disneyland are both theme parks owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company. However, there are some key differences between the two parks.
  • Size: Walt Disney World is much larger than Disneyland. It is located on 27,000 acres in Orlando, Florida, while Disneyland is located on 500 acres in Anaheim, California. This means that Walt Disney World has more rides, attractions, and shows than Disneyland.
  • Theme: Walt Disney World is divided into four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom...plus 2 water parks. Disneyland is divided into two theme parks: Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Each park has its own unique theme and attractions.
  • Hotels: Walt Disney World has over 25 hotels on its property, while Disneyland has only three. This means that there are more options for accommodations at Walt Disney World.
  • Transportation: Walt Disney World has its own internal transportation system, which includes buses, boats, and monorails. Disneyland does not have its own internal transportation system, so guests must rely on taxis, Uber, or Lyft to get around. Additionally, if you're staying 'on property' at Disneyland you are just steps from all the fun in Disneyland & California Adventure.
  • Attendance: Walt Disney World is much more popular than Disneyland. In 2021, Walt Disney World welcomed over 58 million guests, while Disneyland welcomed just over 19 million guests. This means that lines at Walt Disney World are typically longer than lines at Disneyland.
Ultimately, the best choice for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. If you are looking for a large, immersive theme park experience with a variety of rides and attractions, then Walt Disney World is the better choice. If you are looking for a smaller, more intimate theme park experience with a focus on classic Disney characters and stories, then Disneyland is the better choice.
